| Sight Words |
 | In order for our students to become better readers, they will be learning Sight words throughout the year. |
| What are Sight words? Sight words are words that we see and use often when reading and writing. These words need to be recognized by sight, not by sounding them out because many of these words do not follow the basic rules of Spelling; for example, the word some. It sounds likes a short /u/. |
| By recognizing these words by sight, it will increase the student's fluency, accuracy, and speed, which leads to a better reader. |
| For the first six weeks, we will learn 5 to 7 new words. Each six weeks, we will increase in words; however, the student's will not have more than ten words a week. Make sure to practice them at home each night. Please check your child's homework folder for the flash cards for the week. |
