Grassy Fork Elementary
School
Grassy Fork School, located on Big Creek
Road in Cocke County, serves an average of 100 students.
All grades with the exception of the second
grade are in split classrooms. While this situation is not optimal the
teachers do an excellent job in time management and group planning.
Teachers have planning time during physical education, music, art, guidance
and library, as well as before and after school. Using one-week
rotations, each teacher is responsible for bus duty before and after school,
with the part time teachers assisting with this duty.
The Special Education staff provides
services in an inclusive model. Traditional pullout services are
provided as needed to meet individual student's goals.
Grassy Fork School has designed and
implemented a school wide Title I Program since the 1998-99 school year.
In an inclusive setting the Title I staff collaborates with the regular
classroom teachers to provide services in math, reading and Language
Arts. Title I also provides extended learning time opportunities to
students needing assistance in reaching proficiency in targeted areas.
All students in kindergarten through grade eight are encouraged to participate
in the Accelerated Reading Program.
