What is the Cosby Academy?

The Academy is a program that offers ambitious, hard-working and intelligent students the opportunity to challenge themselves academically by taking rigorous college level courses during the regular high school day. As a result of participating in The Academy and completing its requirements, a Cosby High School student will:

• Take the highest level and most rigorous courses offered at Cosby High School
• Have access to a tutoring program and study sessions
• Integrate technology into their weekly course work
• Participate in the Summer Academy
• Potentially earn college credit for course work
• Potentially reduce the cost of college
• Develop confidence and attain the highest level of academic skills to excel in college
• Experience exclusive recognitions and activities
• Receive a seal on their high school diploma

Who Can Benefit from The Cosby Academy?

CHS is committed to the principle that all students deserve an opportunity to participate in rigorous academically challenging courses and programs.  All students who are willing to accept the challenge of rigorous academic curriculum will be considered for admission the the program.

The Cosby Academy will recruit students to the program at the end of their ninth grade year based upon teacher recommendations, grade point average academic commitment and the grades earned in previous corresponding courses. Students may also apply for entrance at any time during their high school career/ The Cosby Academy will admit any student to the program who is "willing to accept the challenge" and dedicate himself/herself to learning at an advanced level.

Policies and Procedures

All students in the program must sign a contract and have this contract co-signed by a parent or guardian in order to reflect their understanding of the academic commitment that is involved in the program and the amount of external support that is required for success.

Academy graduates will have complete at least 2 college level courses, participated in academy activities (both fun and academic) and completed several hours of community service.

The Cosby Academy was named in honor of the original Cosby Academy opened in 1913.
