Freshman Experience
CCHS has a number of policies you might not be familiar with. The most important
is our curriculum which consists of a core curriculum, a College Prep Path, and
a Technical Path, which you should have signed up for at registration. For more
info on the core curriculum and these paths, visit the link below. CCHS also
offers a mixed path for students who are not sure whether or not they are going
to college. For more info on this, contact one of the CCHS Guidance Counselors.
Another important thing you need to be aware of is the bell system at CCHS. For
an explanations of all the bell schedules, click "Bell Schedules" below. Lastly,
the key to making your stay at CCHS worthwhile and beneficial, is to become
active in at least one of the many fun organizations the school has to offer. Be
sure to check out the Clubs and Organizations link, so you can get an idea of
what types of clubs and classes you might be interested. After reviewing
these links, scroll down to get info on grading, Time For Time, attendance,
student ID cards, lockers, medication

Each course lasts for at least one term (eighteen weeks), ending with a final
examination. Progress reports are issued at four-and-one-half weeks and thirteen
weeks (the mid-point of each nine-week period). Grade cards are issued every
nine weeks. Grade cards are to be signed by a parent or guardian and returned to
the school. (Students may keep the end-of-year grade cards.)
Questions concerning grades should be addressed to the teacher assigning the
grade. If a change is to be made, the teacher will notify the person in charge
of computer grade cards.
Attendance
Absences - Students are
allowed five absences for nonschool reasons (regardless if excused or unexcused)
per term. In addition, students are allowed five absences for school-approved
activities (field trips, competitions, annual duties, college visits, sports,
etc.) per term.
For driver’s license
purposes, a doctor or dentist appointment (with a statement including the dates
of the absence covered by the excuse), a death in the immediate family (with a
funeral pamphlet), a court appearance note, and/or a religious observance are
the only excused absences. Documentation must be submitted to the attendance
office within five days of the absences. A student having fifteen days of
unexcused absences in one term will have his/her driver license revoked (or will
not be permitted to obtain a driver license if the student does not already have
one).
Tardies - A tardy is defined as arrival at the student’s class after the
tardy bell. When a student is tardy to a class for the third time, he/she is
charged with an absence in that class and for each additional third tardy
thereafter. If a student is more than fifteen minutes late to a class, the student
will be counted absent from that class.
Leave Earlies - Students needing to leave school early must bring a note
from home to the attendance office by 8:15 . The note must have a local phone
number for verification. If the parent is unavailable for a phone call during
the day, he/she may call the school starting at 6:30 a.m. Students who are to be
picked up by a parent should remain in class until the office calls for the
student. Students who drive should show their teacher the leave-early slip at
the beginning of class and should remain in class until the time listed on the
slip.
Student ID Cards
All CCHS students must have a current identification card. ID cards are made at
the beginning of each school year; a modest fee is charged for the card. (Lost
ID’s must be replaced; the fee will again be charged to replace a lost card.)
Students should carry ID’s whenever they are on campus. An ID is required for
checking books and other materials out of the school library; for attending
time-for-time sessions; and purchasing tickets for and attending school
functions.
Lockers
At the beginning of each school year, each student may be assigned a locker by
his homeroom teacher. Personal locks are not permitted. Lockers are secured by
built-in combination locks; students should keep their lockers locked and their
combinations private. Do not leave money or valuables in your locker; the school
is not responsible for lost or stolen articles. Students are responsible for any
damage (writing, stickers, dents, etc.) done to the locker assigned to them.
Medication
Students under prescribed medication should give the medicine to a designated
person in the main office immediately upon arrival at school. The medication
should be in the original prescription bottle with the student’s name and the
prescribed dosage on it. A parental note should also accompany the medicine.
Students report to the main office at the appropriate time to take the medicine.
As far as is possible, times of medicine should be arranged to coincide with
class breaks
