Bridgeport Elementary School
Bridgeport Elementary School was formed in
1962, by the consolidation of Edwina, Mountain View, Irish Cut, Rock Hill and
Mannings Chapel Schools. The new school opened with ten teachers and
approximately 200 students. The school plant, located on a campus of
approximately five acres, consists of the original 1962 building, which has
been renovated this year, a new gymnasium, and __ classrooms. The
building program included renovating the former gymnasium by adding a library
and office suite in that space.
Bridgeport School is actively involved with
its larger community. A recreational sports program began in 1993, with
basketball and expanded in 1995, to include baseball and softball.
Bridgeport School is a voting site in local, state, and national
elections. Other uses of the campus have included benefit concerts and
programs, church annual meetings, and citizen's forums on various topics.
