Objective: The purpose of this project is to help students gain a better understanding of a major historical figure who made an impact on society by taking a stand. The idea is that students will choose a person or topic that interests them. Once they have decided which person or idea they are going to research, then they will begin looking for a variety of sources to inform the audience about this topic. The purpose of this project is not to have students simply perform a biography on someone. They are to go beyond simple biographical details and look into the how and why of what each individual did.
To Do: Students need to compile a list of at least 50 note cards. These note cards are to have one fact on the front of each card! On the back students should put the source where the fact came from. This will enable the students to know how to cite this particular fact in the body of their paper, presentation, etc. Look at the example below.
|
Top of Card
Franklin Roosevelt was president from 1933 to 1945.
Note this is one fact. It does not have to be long or involved. Only use facts that will be of use to you later on in your project. Do not simply try to fill up the card but get useful information. |
Back of Card
Last name, First name. “Title of the book.” Publisher, City, State, Year. Page numbers. For more information on how to cite other sources go to http://www.aresearchguide.com/11guide.html |
The note cards will need to be completed by October 5, 2006. You also need to have a minimum of 10 source cards. Any questions feel free to ask. The note cards will be graded on the following way. If the note cards are satisfactorily completed with the 50 minimum you will receive full credit. What ever percentage of cards you complete you will receive that percentage of points.
